A Legio Reborn (or distracted yet again)
As I said in my previous post (Easter Weekend Project), I intended to sort out the 'War Room' over the Easter bank holiday. As ever though I got distracted. I started out with good intention - I always do - but sorting out stuff always seems to uncover interesting stuff. I found about 20 blister packs, un opened, of WH40K Marines that are so old they still have the yellow packaging from 20 years ago! Imperial Guard on jet bikes, a rapier self propelled gun, an unopened Imperator Titan plus a 'new' style warlord titan (priced £9.99 - that ages it) but the thing that really caught my eye was my Titan Legion - or parts of it - all broken up in a box.
Now some of these engines first walked in the late 1980's and have paint jobs to match - awful. I believe their last active combat was against an Eldar Host - they were totally slaughtered as a result. That was in Huddersfield in about 1996 and I don't think they've seen the light of day since. I have masses of what was called 'Adeptus Titanicus" and 'Space Marine' stuff, it's called 'Epic Armageddon' these days according to the GW Specialist Games website.
Anyway, I'll do a bit more hunting about before the week is out if I get the chance - Mrs Simpkins is off till next Monday when the new term starts, but I took her for a curry last night, so I am in the good books so I may get the chance while she is about. I have uncovered about 10 Warlords (old style), two new(er) style warlords, three 'beetle' style Reavers, a (for some reason I can't remember I must of bought it) Forge World resin Reaver and the aforementioned 'still boxed' Imperator Titan. I do have a built one of these somewhere, no doubt I'll discover the Warhounds somewhere, but I have found a few Knights - although I sold about 30 of these on Flea Bay a couple of years ago. There are, incidentally, a number of things I've found that I will put on Flea Bay at some point.
So, while Dwarves are great and I am painting up these still, I like to have an alternative project on the go so I think I will see if the Legion can Walk again. I really liked Titan's, they look great on the table, especially if it's a pure Engine fight. If it had been a straightforward Engine fight back in Huddersfield against those foppish Eldar, then I don't think my Legion would have been lost with all hands and colours lost.
Anyway, I plan to give this lot a bath in Dettol and get them stripped down and repainted. I've already done a few as you can see. They've stripped down quite well. I'll do a post on the Dettol paint stripping method - it is very effective. I think I will break with my usual pattern and get the whole lot stripped and cleaned up before I start painting rather than my usual haphazard over eager approach. Plan it all properly!
I already have a theme in mind, Panzer Grey with Teutonic heraldry, must come up with a new Legio name too - but that can wait. I am also going to magnetise the hard points on them, so I can have various weapon configurations - the plastic warlords were originally designed for this, but the plastic snapped off, the white metal ones, well they fall off. So I am off to find some suitable magnets. Then convince Mrs Simpkins to let me buy them!
Well that's all for now, better get on with some work.
Update - Mrs. Simpkins gave the go ahead for the magnets from www.first4magnets.com, they should be here on Friday!
